Father's Day Photos!

My husband is a huge fan of Chicago Cubs. So I decided to surprised him with a Chicago Cubs cake on father's day! By the way, this is the very first time I made fondant cake. I did not realize until I was already kneading and coloring the fondant, that it's hard to get dark colors with fondant! Fondant is perfect for pastel colors, not dark! So why it look red on the photo? That's because, I polished it with some water! It help solve my problem on that part. It took me like an hour to achieved the red color that I want. But it wasn't really dark red, it was more of like fushia pink. I was so worn out kneading the red fondant, I give-up. I run out of time, I need a back-up plan to make this cake work! I decided to use dark blue icing instead of dark blue fondant. Because there's no way I could finish my fondant cake on time!

As you can see, it's a mess. But who cares! As long as dh loved it.. I am happy! He was actually very surprised with this cake. .... I made chocolate cake covered with vanilla whip cream and marsmallow fondant. I know, I am bad with decorating cakes. But hey, this is not bakery! LOL! I am still trying to learn. Anyway, we took our #1 DAD to his favorite steak house. Most important part is, he felt loved and special. I believe that it don't have to be expensive if you want to show how much you loved and appreciate a father. Even simple, messy cake like I made would mean alot to him.. ...  he is such a wonderful dad. We love him, very much!
