Attack by Hives..
It started last week when me and my boys had cold. Brandon nose looks pretty dry already while Elijah still little bit runny. On the other hand, I still got strep throat. Last night while eating dinner, I noticed how red Brandon's left arm. I thought he hit his arm somewhere because he was playing wild last night. When I look more closer, it was swelling red! I have no idea what it was at first because I haven't seen anything like it. Hubby said it could possibly be hives but he is not sure either. So I make a research about signs of hives and base on the descriptions, it match exactly as what Brandon just had. I was about to call his pedia and ask, but we were convinced that it is hives and it's not that serious.
Here's what the expert says: Hives are caused by an allergic reaction within the body. Histamine is released under the skin and causes areas of swelling. They appear as red or white, raised welts on the skin. They can appear suddenly out of nowhere, and can spread rapidly. Illnesses are the most common cause of hives in children. The body can have an allergic reaction to the illness. These illnesses are usually viruses, but can be any cause. So, if your child is sick, and breaks out in hives, it is probably due to the illness. A note – don't worry about what illness might be causing the hives. If there is no fever or symptoms of any illness, then the hives probably are not due to illness. If there is a fever, but no other symptoms, then it is probably a harmless virus.
This describe exactly about my little boy. He catch a virus and got cold. Later on, his skin is producing a Histamine that causes areas of swelling. We give him kids Benadryl last night. It is the standard treatment for hives. The result was awesome. Few minutes after, hives went away. When we woke up this morning, I check Brandon's body and found few swelling red. Hives usually stay 1-2 to days. He got new swelling on his left cheek and left shoulder, but other than that I did not see anything else. His swelling on left arm last night and legs are gone. I give him another dose of benadry this morning and within few minutes, the swelling on his cheek and shoulder is gone. I hope this hives won't come back anymore. I know there's nothing to freak out for my son seems fine and playful. But I can't stand looking on some areas of Brandon's body swelling red. Sigh!
